Seasonal Greens

Last night we picked our first leaves of lettuce greens. The red mustard and frisé benefited from all the recent rain and were finally big enough to pluck without leaving them too bare.

To make a simple salad, we combined the tender greens with a little olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice and sea salt.

Smorgasburg.

Today we went to Williamsburg to check out Smorgasburg, a Brooklyn Flea food market. We were so happy to be outside in the warm weather that we didn't mind waiting in line at Porchetta for the slow roasted pork sandwich, marinated in herbs & spices and served on a crusty cibatta roll.

After that, in need of something cool and refreshing we mosied over to the People's Pops for a red-plum shaved ice. So good. Still feeling peckish we waited in line at Nana's for a frozen banana dipped in chocolate and rolled in shredded coconut.

Finally, we couldn't escape the market without grabbing a wedge of Dorset cheese from Consider Bardwell Farm.

Oven-to-Table

We bought the ingredients at Eataly to make these homemade pizzas. Freshly baked foccacia, prosciutto, homemade mozzarella, cipollini onions and tomato paste (the imported kind in the tube so we can have it on-hand). We topped them off with finely sliced basil, Maldon salt and cracked pepper. After 5 minutes under the broiler we had ourselves a simple and tasty meal.

Talking Shop

The opening of the High Line in 2009 coincided with the early days of our dating history, and so it made for a great after-work date. We walked from Gansevoort Street to 20th St, enjoying the balmy air and working up our appetites. When we descended at 20th St & 10th Ave, we stumbled across Cookshop which seemed like an ideal place to satiate our hunger... Or so it would have been had we had reservations.

This past weekend, two years later, we finally returned to Cookshop to celebrate our 2-year anniversary and reminisce on those first shared moments.

Here's what we had on this special night:

Kumamoto Oysters
***
Montauk squid, pickled shishito peppers, yukon gold potatoes, parsley & harissa aioli
